Dabbling in Photography

I've always liked taking pictures, whether they be of people, nature, animals or just junk. I would not consider myself a photographer really, just someone who wants to document the world as she sees it. Some of my recent work:

A flower, complete with a bug, in Grandma's garden upstate.

Jack, donning his fantastic mustache at his birthday party.

A formal shot of some dances at the first McKinley Ballroom Competition this past May - I was actually hired to do the job.

More dancers - in action - at the Ballroom Competition.

More action dancing from the Ballroom Competition.

The above four are all action shots from "The Music Man" in April.

My New Favorite Website

A website recommendation, particularly for those of you out there who like to dabble with pictures. Picnik is a photo-editing website that can do simple touch-ups to pictures and you can play around with them, much like you could do with a photo editing program. However, I like some of these features and WILL put them to good use. Here's a sample of it's work:

This is a picture I took of a gnome on the small porch at the house in Montauk. I was able to make it look polaroid-esque. Personally, I think it looks like an add for something now.

The Hummingbird

A hummingbird came to visit us while we watching movies upstate. It was outside by the bird feeder. Though my lens didn't want to get close enough for a close-up, I was able to crop the picture enough to see the bird - here are all three pictures for the comparison.

Mountain Views

Here are some pictures from our recent trip upstate to visit Grandma and Ted. Lindsay was determined to get to the top of the mountain behind the house. While we didn't make it all the way up, we certainly found a pretty good route (remember, take the LEFT fork next time - we won't make that mistake again!).

My Roses

These are the flowers I received at the show on Friday night. They are currently giving the entire apartment a very nice smell! And they're so pretty!

More Photography

More pictures from yesterday! I like the one with the marbles - if you look close enough (click on it to make it big), you can see me taking the picture reflecting in two of the marbles!

Images of Easter

As we oddly did not actually take any family pictures, here are some Easter-y images from the day! I took these all today, at some point or another.

Labor Day Weekend

Here are some of the highlights of my recent visit to see Kate (who isn't family but might as well be!) and her mom at their house in Callicoon (let's just say we had a little too much fun with the camera feature on my work computer!):

Me and Kate, looking attractive as ever.

Hats are amazing.

Vicky, Kate's mom (on the far right) with her friends Inger and Doug.

A picture I took on the porch - I just like it!

Monday the family was at Pam's for a Labor Day dinner - and we saw all of Katherine's fabulous photos from France, which will be up here soon... along with the videos!

Picture of the Week

As I go back to work tomorrow, and probably will not be so bored I would imagine my posting will be lessened, so here's this week's pic of the week before I forget!

Seeing as we've had such a dino-themed week, here's a picture of some snow on my windshield from a recent snowstorm (well, okay, it was probably in March or something). Anyway, as I was stopped at a red light, I noticed that the wind had blown the snow into the shape of a T-Rex! I had to take a picture immediately, of course! It even had the stumpy little arm that's too short to reach it's mouth!

In Honor of Katherine's Voyage to France Today....

Though she won't be in Paris till the end of the week, here's a picture to get into the spirit of France! Have fun - and we expect to hear all about it when you return!

Flower Photography

This post serves no purpose but to display my photography skills yet again. I took all of these, and I just really liked them. Of course, it helped that the subjects were really nice before I started! The first two are from upstate at Grandma and Ted's and the third was taken right near the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Photography by Katherine

Katherine took this picture of Daniel and Nicholas in their slide when we were visiting them last week. I thought it was a good "defining" picture of the twins!

After "helping" Katherine with her photography homework, I decided to take out my camera and play around with it a bit. My favorite one:

Katherine's Photography Homework

This picture is part of Katherine's summer assignment for photography. She had to take a self-portrait. I helped - by acting as human tripod. Katherine actually pressed the button (with it on self-timer) so technically it's STILL a self-portrait!

In the picture she is wearing Grandma Ginger's junior prom dress - a gauzy thing in greens and yellows with a floral pattern on the skirt. I think the picture came out really cool - aside from the very updated lotions and sprays sitting below the mirror, I think it could have come straight from an old movie!

America's Next Top Models?

Where's Tyra Banks when you need her? As seems to be the norm with me, Lindsay and Katherine, we took some modeling photos the other night when we were all hanging out. You be the judge!

However, this competition may be entirely unfair, as Katherine has past modeling experience:

Two Boys in a Box!

While spending the week with Carol, James and the boys, Carol and James unwrapped their new television. The box ended up creating hours of fun for the boys, especially Robert and Thomas (pictured above) who managed to get themselves stuck inside of it!
