Quote of the Week

"Labor Day is a glorious holiday because your child will be going back to school the next day. It would have been called Independence Day, but that name was already taken." ~Bill Dodds

It's funny since in my job, I have the exact OPPOSITE reaction to Labor Day. Sure, people "lose" their kids right after Labor Day Weekend, but as the teacher, I GAIN them!

Quote of the Week

"The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together." ~Erma Bombeck

Quote of the Week

"Jumping at several small opportunities may get us there more quickly than waiting for one big one to come along."
-Hugh Allen

Quote of the Week

"I sometimes find, and I am sure you know the feeling, that I simply have too many thoughts and memories crammed into my mind.... At these times... I use the Pensieve. One simply siphons the excess thoughts from one's mind, pours them into the basin, and examines them at one's leisure."

-J.K. Rowling, "The Pensieve," Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, 2000, spoken by the character Albus Dumbledore

Quote of the Week (Two Days Late)

I have forgotten to add the quote of the week to the site this week. Anyway, here it is:

"Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain."
-Author Unknown

Quote of the Week

"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."
~e.e. cummings, 1955

Quote of the Week

"You can't text shotgun." - Unknown Character Name (My Boys)

I see this commercial all the time for the show my boys. It makes me think of Lindsay and Katherine every time!

Quote of the Week

You gotta love how Lemony Snicket (A Series of Unfortunate Events), describes the world like it is!

"A passport, as I'm sure you know, is a document that one shows to government officials whenever one reaches a border between countries, so the officials can learn who you are, where you were born, and how you look when photographed unflatteringly." ~Lemony Snicket

Quote of the Week

I couldn't find ANY good father's day quotes that weren't "Hallmark-card-sappy" so I found a quote about children instead!

"Children seldom misquote. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said." ~Author Unknown

Quote of the Week

I'm posting it REALLY early (it's 1:12 a.m.) because I'm working on a project and am still awake. Don't ask me why this project couldn't wait until tomorrow when I'm home all day, but it just couldn't!

In honor of today being the first of June:

"What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade." ~Gertrude Jekyll

In the morning I'll come up with something interesting for the month of June to talk about.

Quote of the Week

I had a great quote of the week that I saw in a Scope magazine (you probably wouldn't know what that is unless you teach!) today while reading with the kids. Anyway, I completely forgot what it was, but it had to do with fate. So, here's a suitable substitute until I find the one I was looking for!

"Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant, filled with odd waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like." ~Lemony Snicket

Quote of the Day

"I have my own little world, but it's okay - they know me here." ~Author Unknown

Probably true of everyone at some point or another in their lives.

Quote of the Week

Was away yesterday, so here it is today:

The odds of going to the store for a loaf of bread and coming out with only a loaf of bread are three billion to one. ~Erma Bombeck

This quote came in handy this week!

Quote of the Week

I think Sundays will now be Quote of the Week Days. Just gives you something to think about for the week ahead.

Today's Quote:

"If you don't get everything you want, think of the things you don't get that you don't want." ~Oscar Wilde

And note that since I like quotes so much, there will likely be more than one on many weeks - but I'll try to keep them related to each other, at the very least!
