Recent Movie-Going Adventures

I don't drag myself to the movies for any old thing, so something has to REALLY peak my interest for me to want to see it. I do, however, tend to see more movies in the summer when I have a lot of time. Here are my two most recent, highly recommended movies, both of which I plan to buy on DVD (or ask to receive for Christmas, as I find DVDs to be the easiest gifts):


Mamma Mia, while admittedly corny and perhaps a little tacky, is very enjoyable, particularly if you were a strange child like I was who was REALLY into ABBA! (And you can't beat the scenery!)


Not as good as the first, but Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 did have its charms!

The Terror of Tiny Town

When Kate and I were little, we used to watch this ALL THE TIME. From the giant drink one of the guys drinks to the chef chasing Fritz the Duck ("Look Fritz, it's gettin' late for the boss' dinner, and I'm gettin' tired!"), we laughed until we cried! (Come to think of it, this movie is probably the reason why I think the name Fritz is so funny.)

A Little Education for Your Sunday Afternoon...

I have always been fascinated by whales - and one day I WILL see one in person! (As in, NOT in the aquarium!)

Old Favorites

Call 'em what you will - old fashioned, corny, etc., but I still love Shirley Temple movies!

(And don't tell him I said so, but I kind of think Jack looks like a boy version of her! Seriously, if we gave him ringlet curls and put him in a dress, we might be able to win some sort of look-a-like contest!)


"War Babies" - from Lindsay's and my old favorite Shirley Temple Festival.


I LOVED her pink dress! I still want to dress my future children in little Shirley Temple dresses!


Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm is probably one of my all-time favorite Shirley Temple movies.

Movie Recommendation

Saw it Saturday night. It was pretty good - makes me want to read the book again, so thankfully it's on the bookshelf right next to me.

Chorus Performance at Lutheran Hospital

On Friday the faculty-student chorus I participate in at work performed at Lutheran Hospital. We did our whole show. Here's a brief clip of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" It has my solo, hence the most appropriate for the family website!

This video is one of my favorite home movies. It was made in 1985, just after Jordan's Christening. For some reason, while all hanging out on the front porch, the family befriended a kid who was riding his bike on the street. They then proceeded to invite him into the car (though that's not as sketchy as it sounds!), and MOST of the family crammed themselves into a convertible and drove around the block.



The best part was that the kid was also named Kevin, so we had some fun with the names. Best quote: "Kev, how long have you known Kev?"

My New Favorite Hobby...

... is putting videos on the family website! Here's a clip from the McKinley Choir Performance from June 2007. This is the "medley." My solo falls towards the end. If you look closely, the kid in the white shirt is a much smaller Harold Hill - it's so funny how much middle school kids grow up in just a few months!



Coming later today... some actual FAMILY videos. Perhaps I can FINALLY get some Camp Hymelick clips up here... I think I'll start with "The Music in the Beast King's Forest of Gardens." (You'll understand later.)
